New CRC 1357 Publication Langmuir

10.01.2021

In this publication, the authors describe a new process for the production of clay nanosheets. By using osmotic delamination they successfully extended the production of clay nanosheets to polar/aprotic solvents.

For the CO2 project, aiming to develop new biodegradable clay/polymer composite materials, this is a significant result. The new process extends the nanocomposite application to a wide range of polymers and biodegradable polymers. Now hydrophobic matrices and biodegradable polyesters like PLA can be used. Thus, C02 can now develop and test PLA composites, one of the most promising candidates regarding new biodegradable packaging materials.
