More than 3,500 people attended the events, collected litter, enjoyed the film screenings, participated in workshops, lectures, walks, guided tours, or visited the exhibitions. The Main River Film Festival, which ran from Bayreuth through Kulmbach, Bamberg, and other locations to Würzburg, recorded 790 participants, including 318 children attending the film screenings.

In her lecture, "Microplastics in water - where the small particles travel," Dr. Johanna Schmidtmann presented to an audience of 51 not only the general challenges of microplastics research but also new findings on their behavior and transport pathways. These are influenced by a variety of parameters, such as the pH value of the water. Afterwards, Jona Scmitt led visitors through the marine aquarium with its animal and plant inhabitants and answered questions about the effects of climate change and increasing pollution.

The children's cinema, featuring live microscopy of water fleas and environmental samples, attracted a total of 318 visitors in Bayreuth, Würzburg, and Lichtenfels. The film program included "Pia and Wild Nature," an entertaining portrayal of the habitats of native animals and plants, and a film on the water cycle from the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, which vividly explains this perpetual cycle.
