Study by the CRC Microplastics shows: Shape is crucial

16.01.2026

Graphical Abstract Fluvial Sediments

In the publication by Springer Nature Nanoplastics and Microplastics, Marco La Capra and the B03 team demonstrate that the shape of microplastics has an impact on their transport and retention in river systems.
The different behaviour of microplastic fragments and fibres typically found in the environment, as opposed to the spheres commonly used in studies, significantly alters the prognosis and risk assessment of environmental pollution.
