“About the Variability of Tire and Road Wear Marker Components in Air: From Emissions to Atmospheric Deposition” in Environmental Science & Technology by Elisabeth Eckenberger, Myriam Younes, Tobias Mayer, Manuel Loeber, Linda Bondorf, Tobias Schripp, Sarmite Kernchen, Christian Laforsch, and Anke Nölscher.
Tire and road wear particles (TRWP) are an emerging class of non‑exhaust emissions and a growing environmental concern – yet their atmospheric abundance and transformation are still poorly understood.
By directly linking source materials to atmospheric samples, the study demonstrates for the first time that TRWP can be traced along their emission pathway and underlines the need to account for chemical transformation of marker compounds when assessing their environmental fate.
