WHY THE WORLD DOES NOT FIT WOMEN

We are pleased to invite the PhD students of the SFB 1357 to an exciting workshop, which was designed with a lot of commitment and interest by Dr. Elena Köstner, Prof. Dr. Heike Feldhaar and the SFB 1357 Microplastics Office especially for you as PhD students and young scientists! A visit to the reading "Das Patriachat der Dinge" (The Patriarchy of Things) by Rebekka Endler as part of the event series "Eine Uni - Ein Buch" (One University - One Book) provided the impetus and led to this workshop idea:

Workshop "The patriarchy of things - and how it influences my research".

This workshop will give input on the terms 'patriarchy' and 'thing' as well as on the differentiation of gender into a biological (engl. sex) and a social (engl. gender) one. This is first discussed using selected passages from Rebekka Endler's book "The Patriarchy of Things, Why the World Doesn't Fit Women" (2021). Furthermore, the focus is on the application for the subjects represented in the SFB Microplastics: In which subject could gender or a differentiation into sex and gender play a role? If this were to be the case, what would change with regard to the experimental design and methodology, the selection of animals or the handling of collected data, or even the results and their discussion? You will exchange and discuss these and other questions in partner and group work: What does a meaningful and practicable gender relevance assessment for the SFB Microplastics look like? Such a gender relevance check is now a standard requirement for DFG proposals.

Date: 17 March 2023 | Time: 10:00 to 17:00 | Room: S66, RW
