New podcast with CRC 1357 Microplastics spreaker Prof. Christian Laforsch

Siblers DenkRäume, episode 12: Plastik – Gefahrenstoff oder Problemlöser

When we think of plastic and microplastics, we think mostly of packaging waste and polluted oceans these days. What effects do these pollutants have on our environment and the organisms that live in it? What dangers do these substances pose to our health? And are the oceans really that badly affected? What can we as consumers do about it?

Prof. Dr. Christian Laforsch is a zoologist and ecologist and holds the Chair of Animal Ecology at the University of Bayreuth. He has been working on the topic of microplastics for over ten years and was one of the first authors to address the problem of microplastics in freshwater ecosystems. He and his research team are involved in a number of microplastics projects and are currently coordinating the world's first collaborative research center on microplastics.

In his research, Laforsch primarily examines the effects of microplastics on the environment. Find out why he conducts research on tropical islands and how his findings have changed his life in this podcast episode of "Siblers DenkRäume".
